Being on a team brings a bond like no other. Having the same goal, competing against opponents, supporting and encouraging one another. All these things together build lifelong friendships and bonds. Teams give people a shared experience and a similar interest to talk about with one another.
Playing any team sport teaches teamwork, but football is arguably the most team-oriented sport to be played. In a lot of team sports, a single player or position on the field can control the whole game. In football everyone needs to know the plan and work together to execute. To be successful the whole team needs to work together.
Flag football is paving the way to college for many female athletes. There are several scholarship opportunities in the world of flag football. While scholarship opportunities started in NAIA and Junior Colleges, the sport is on the rise! In January 2026 the NCAA added women's flag football to its Emerging Sports for Women program. Flag football can provide a pathway to higher education for young athletes.
If you're being recruited to a NAIA, D2 or D3 school, you can be officially offered at any point in your high school career. If you are being recruited to a D1 school, college coaches can not offer you anything until the summer before junior year.
